The Addiction Recovery Foundation

Recoveroz Urban Rehab Program

The Addiction Recovery Foundation (ARF) is a Not for Profit full D.G.R Public Company and we have developed a new Community Residential Rehabilitation Program. Our rehab program is called the Recoveroz Urban Rehab program, which operates under the flagship of The Addiction Recovery Foundation (ARF) We are now situated at 62 to 64 Highbury Road Burwood. Our ethos here is that we guarantee to always have a bed available on enquiry and strive to never refuse admission because of money. Costs are just $700 per client per week for up to 12 months if necessary. We work with Centrelink and Rental Assistance so that at least half the cost of rehab can be met. Under the Not for Profit arm of the Addiction Recovery Foundation, we can look at reductions of 50% in cases of extreme hardship.

The Recoveroz Urban Rehab is Day Rehab + Community based suburban living in well maintained houses which provide long term rehab and stability. These houses are within close proximity to each other and to the rehab centre. This allows clients to meet in a group setting during the day to undertake the structured rehabilitation and counselling, and be taken to evening 12 step meetings at night. Our minibus delivers clients back to their place of residence at night. As well as Housing, it provides Food and all Utilities, A structured rehabilitation program, Drug and Alcohol Case workers and Clinical Psychologist. Clients gain the benefits of community living, learning good housekeeping, hygiene, money management, tolerance all done by living with and supporting each other as a healthy community. Clients have the benefits of a residential rehabilitation, without the isolation and institutionalization of one, because all our houses are in the community.

We have been running this model of care for 7 years and it came about as a support for patients who left Malvern Private Hospital. The program Director, George Thompson started both Malvern Private Hospital, Recoveroz and a number of other rehabs around Melbourne and Adelaide. Because of his nearly 30 years of experience in developing Private Rehabs and Hospitals, we aim to provide the same quality of rehab that cost many thousands of dollars. Through agreements made with local medical centres we have been able to provide our clients Addiction Medicine Doctors and Clinical Psychologists.

Our ethos is to offer the same level of care to ALL the affected population instead of only people with money or Private Health Insurance. You don’t see people like teachers, pilots, accountants or lawyers going on methadone or other pharmacological maintenance programs. Just because someone has fallen through the cracks and has ended up in the justice system doesn’t mean they self-disqualify from the best treatment for addiction. If we are to get people to once again function in society, then we must provide the vehicle to do it. This model of care does exactly that, and we do not discriminate because of money.

Because of the low cost of this model of treatment, working in close partnership with other agencies has been essential, and we work with a number of them to provide food and household goods. Donations are essential.

The Program currently provides:

  • Housing, food and all utilities A
  • structured daily rehab program
  • Drug and Alcohol
  • Case workers
  • Clinical Psychologist
  • Addiction Specialist Doctors
  • Linkages to Work and Volunteer Agencies
  • Specialist Medical appointments
  • Attendance to evening support groups

Most organisations offer either short or long-term housing with no rehab program, or a rehab program with no long-term housing. We do both. Clients gain the benefits of community living, learning good housekeeping, hygiene, money management, tolerance all done by living with and supporting each other as a healthy community. Clients have the benefits of a residential rehabilitation, without the isolation and institutionalisation of one.

Goals of the Addiction Recovery Program

  • Help the patient continue to maintain abstinence (not just stopping, but staying stopped)
  • Make the patient aware of the relapse process, so it can be avoided or reversed quickly.
  • Assist the addict in recognizing emotional triggers.
  • Teach the patient appropriate coping skills to handle life stresses without returning to drug use.
  • Provide the opportunity for the patient to practice newly developed coping skills.
  • Provide the tools for people to start and become productive members of society again.
